To prevent loss of life in behavioral health facilities, it is critical that staff are readily prepared should a distressed patient barricade a door closed.

With the SWITCH Anti-Barricade Door System, staff can gain access to a barricaded room in less than 2 seconds with no override tool kits required – even with the door lock bolt extended or tampered with – saving critical seconds during a life-threatening incident.

SWITCH is the world’s first and only anti-barricade door system with a hinge-side operating mechanism. This unique feature places staff in the barricade ‘Green Zone’; the point at which the opening door leaf is at its lowest speed and, as such, the safest position when overcoming a barricading incident.

The SWITCH Anti-Barricade Door System features a solid rebated frame on the closing side, increasing the door’s strength and providing a non-institutional appearance, while a wide range of customizable finishes and hardware combinations further contribute to creating a therapeutic environment.

As with all Kingsway Group behavioral health doors, SWITCH is ideal for both new build and refurbishment projects, arriving on site pre-tested and pre-assembled with all ligature-resistant hardware and componentry factory-fitted for smooth and efficient installation, with certification to UL standards.

'Green Zone' operation

Overcome Patient Barricades in Under 2 Seconds – watch to see how it works

SWITCH puts staff in the safe ‘Green Zone’; the point at which the opening door is at its lowest speed. This unique feature to SWITCH allows staff to remain in control of the opening door when overcoming a barricade with the door leaf acting as an additional layer of protection between staff and patient where necessary.

Fast access

The heavy-duty SwitchHinge lock secures the hinge parts for single action use during normal operation and provides double-action use when unlocked to overcome barricades.

By simply unlocking the SwitchHinge with the Kingsway Staff Key and pulling the recessed handle, the hinge will retract allowing the door leaf to open outwards freely to overcome barricading incidents, even if locked from the inside by the patient. The lock indicator clearly shows the status of the SwitchHinge lock.
